During the 1870's, the area now known as St. Peter Village, was purchased by Dominican Priest Father J.R. Kelly. Here, he built St. Peter Orphanage to house the orphans who survived the Civil War and yellow fever epidemics.

In 1971, Bishop Carroll Dozier, the first Bishop of the new Catholic Diocese of Memphis, envisioned a campus that would play an integral part in the city of Memphis, with no boundaries of race, creed, religion, or age. This vision would later include St. Peter Manor in 1979 and Target House in 1999.

But before Target House, a new area of the Village opened in 1981, serving as a refuge for those needing skilled nursing care. St. Peter Villa, a non-profit, 180-bed, skilled and intermediate care facility was created and operated by the Associated Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Memphis.

Since then, St. Peter Villa has been committed to serving the needs of the total person, particularly the poor and underserved, but it can't do that without your help.

  • The Villa is funded primarily through reimbursement from Medicaid, Medicare, Veteran's Administration, and private pay. (Medicaid - 79%, Medicare - 10%, Veteran's Administration - 6%, and private pay - 5%)
  • Because only 5% of the Villa's residents are private pay, St. Peter Villa depends on the generosity of private and corporate donors, along with the revenue of two annual fundraising events: the St. Peter Villa Golf Tournament and 5K Run-Walk.

In order for St. Peter Villa to continue to provide the excellent, roound-the-clock care for its elderly, chronically ill, and rehabilitative patients, we turn to you. If you would like to make a donation to St. Peter Villa, click here.
